Sustainable Style 17: The House of Sustainability Knitwear

The House of Sustainability creates sustainably produced knitwear in their small, family-owned factory in Leicester in the U.K.. With 35 years of experience they want to bring quality, value and ethical manufacturing to their products.

They kindly sent me a Bradgate basketweave 100% British wool jumper to try. This attractive chunky knit comes in six colours and is made from wool yarn sourced from the very finest flocks. An example of this jumper is about to go into the permanent collection at the British Wool Board in Bradford (link below).

Wearing the House of Sustainability Bradgate sweater

Going from fleece to finished yarn in less than 50 miles, it has a low carbon footprint, is made by a waste-free process, adheres to high levels of animal welfare and supports British Farmers and manufacturing. They use recycled materials in their packaging and pay their workers fairly, confirming their determination to show genuine green credentials - setting an example to many larger brands.

In their Good Life Guarantee, they replace or repair knitwear that becomes faulty or requires mending. A reasinable charge is made for repairing damage caused by wear and tear, meaning there is no excuse to throw away a garment if holes appear. See their website for more details of this

The House of Sustainability sell both men's and women's knitwear, some from recycled cashmere and merino, click House of Sustainability for more information and to purchase.
