Bremont Endurance: A Watch for Travel and Adventure

On our recent Antarctic trip I needed a watch to keep track of two time zones. Bremont kindly lent me a Supermarine Endurance limited edition watch. This was developed in collaboration with polar explorer Ben Saunders for his attempt at an unsupported solo crossing of Antarctica.

Named after Shackleton's ship, lost when trapped by ice in the Weddell Sea in 1914/15, it also marks the qualities of toughness needed when he rescued his men after navigating a small boat to South Georgia from Elephant Island - and indeed the toughness needed by any polar explorer.

The Bremont Supermarine Endurance GMT watch in action in Antarctica. Roll neck by Nigel Cabourn, hat by Edmund Hillary.

The watch itself is obviously built for strength and lighter than it appears, thanks to a titanium case. It's a solid timepiece, water resistant to 500m and easily put up with soakings on a Zodiac and a freezing night's camping on the ice. The orange GMT hand can be separately moved to record time in another time zone and the bezel enables the watch to be used as a compass (as long as you remember that the sun is in the northern sky in Antarctica - a fact I temporarily forgot when first trying this function!) making it an ideal travel and adventure watch.

For more information see Bremont's website.

I borrowed the watch from Bremont for this feature. I was unpaid and the post is unsponsored.
