When the maker of some of the best cameras in the world, Leica, collaborates with the manufacturer of the best luggage, Globe-Trotter, you can expect something special.
Leica Q x Globe-Trotter |
I'm a very amateur photographer (although keen to learn more) but I appreciate the solid beauty of a Leica (I own a few film versions, including a 1937 Leica IIIa). Sometimes I pull out an old Leica for the sheer pleasure of hearing the whisper of superb engineering as I fire the shutter. The Leica Q doesn't disappoint in this respect; on handling it feels well-built and robust.
The Leica Q's strength lies in its full frame sensor and superb quality fast f1.7 28mm lens, making it ideal for low light, street, landscape and holiday photography. This isn't a zoom lens, there isn't an inbuilt flash and, while it can be used on auto, it takes the best pictures when you, the photographer, take control. The images sparkle with a clarity, sharpness and colour quality that lesser cameras cannot achieve. All this makes this a camera for the enthusiast who really appreciates a top quality image rather than the holiday snapper.
While you can use it on auto focussing, if you're a Leica fan you can focus the Leica Q manually with a toggle on the focussing ring - recognisable to anyone who's handled an old film Leica.

For those for whom style is a vital feature of any product, the Leica Q offers classic beauty and the red dot discreetly shows the world that you're a man or woman of discernment.
I loved the camera and was reluctant to hand it back. Any drawbacks? The beautiful leather cladding is attractive but doesn't feel quite as secure as the usual rubberised camera exterior. But who cares? This is a jewel of a camera and that thought wouldn't prevent me adding this Leica Q to my camera bag.

The same high quality manufacturing standards go into making a Globe-Trotter suitcase, as I found out on my visit earlier this year (read here for my visit to the Globe-Trotter factory). The camera is wrapped in selected blue or pink leather and comes in a beautifully crafted miniature Globe-Trotter case. Limited to 50 pieces, the Leica Q x Globe-Trotter costs £5400.

This is an unsponsored post. I asked to borrow the Leica Q because I wanted to try it. I received no payment or other compensation. All views are mine and are not those of a photography expert, so please take more knowledgable advice than mine if you're considering a purchase.
