I've written about my admiration for Glashütte Original, the German watch company, here on the blog before. I've also written about my preference for medium to small watches; those under 40mm in diameter, so I recently asked Glashütte if I could have a look at two of my favourites from their collection which fall within this size range.
The Glashütte Original Seventies Chronograph and SeaQ Dive Watch: both 40mm or less in size |
Contrasting in style and function, the Glashütte Original SeaQ is a robust 39.5mm diver's watch, while the Seventies Chronograph, based on a vintage design, is a colourful 40mm.
Glashütte Original make most of the components in their own factory in a small Saxony town a short distance from Dresden. As I saw on a visit there last year, the care and skill that goes into making each watch is remarkable. The detail of the finish of each of these watches is impressive, with dials, movements and cases being beautifully manufactured to the extent that they are works of art.
The SeaQ is part of the Spezialist range and is a watch I would choose for a rough and tumble travel adventure. It combines beauty with strength in a way that inspires confidence while being quite different in style from many of the commoner dive watches on the market.
The Seventies chronograph has a remarkable green dial (made in GO's dial manufactory), flyback, power reserve display and date, making it a versatile watch of considerable character.

This is unsponsored. I love these watches and GO kindly let me see them close up for this feature.
