Many of you will know that I write a column for the Chap magazine (link below). Sometimes quirky, sometimes serious, often vintage-inspired, always amusing, it's a publication that you should try as its content is wider ranging than you might think at first glance. In my column I write about my favourite brands (many, but by no means all, British) and about products suitable for men (and often women) of all ages.
The Chap Shop
The magazine has an online shop with items ranging from grooming products, pocket squares to clothing. I was asked to review one of their new suit range. Tailored by tweed specialists, Walker Slater, it's made from Shetland wool and comes in two colours: brown or blue/grey birdseye check.

The Chap x Walker Slater tweed suit
Sold separately as jacket, waistcoat and trousers, a whole suit costs a reasonable £455.00. As you'd expect from an august publication like the Chap, this is no skinny-fit suit with truncated jacket and inch wide lapels. It's cut in a very classic style with three buttons and single vent at the rear. Trousers have belt loops and a pleated front and are delivered unfinished - I had mine hemmed with 2" turnups. They have a gentle taper in good classic contemporary style.

The tweed is mid-weight and soft and my blue grey suit is suitable for town or country wear, while the brown tweed suit has a slightly more rural look. Tailored in Portugal, the quality if the construction is good for the price, as we expect from clothing made in that country. Unlike many more affordable tweed jackets, it doesn't have wide, over-padded shoulders and this gives a softer and more contemporary look to what is otherwise a classic suit which will suit dapper gentlemen of any age. I'm impressed and if you're in the market for an off-the-peg stylish suit for town or country you should consider this one.
