Masters of Style is a new series of features here on the blog in which I profile people who dress well, have something interesting to say about clothes and whose style inspires us all.
I say a 'new series': that's not quite true. I have had a short-lived Masters of Style before which then morphed into another called Sartorial Sages. You can find a link to these at the end of this post. Those features had similar aims but were less comprehensive than this one.
I'm delighted to introduce Adolfo Loeri from Washington DC, USA (pictured below right). He will open this new series with his relaxed preppy style in my next post in three days time (17th January 2022). He is an ideal vanguard as he personifies what I aim to achieve in Masters of Style which is to provide exemplars to inspire, influence and advise us in our individual searches for style. Adolfo not only shows us how to dress well, but he provides much useful wisdom to inform us on our journeys.

The emphasis of Masters of Style will be on older men and women because with age comes greater experience and self confidence and thereby better style. The focus will be on style as opposed to fashion. Fashion is created by brands and designers and consequently can eclipse our own creativity. Style democratises by focusing on the individual; we may take inspiration from fashion but ultimately it's our personalities and inventiveness that lie behind how we look and what we wear.
For me, one of the main signs of a truly stylish person is that they look comfortable in their clothes. This will be the common thread running thought a series that will contain a wide variety of styles from people of very diverse backgrounds from around the world. I want these exemplars to speak for themselves, but my introductory thought for you at this early stage is that you should only wear what you feel comfortable with. With comfort comes confidence and with confidence comes style. However, as your confidence grows you will find that your tastes change and after a while you will look back on the earlier you and you might find that you are now wearing things you wouldn't have dared to wear before. That is how a sense of style develops and progresses - as you will hear from the Masters of Style in this series.
I'd hope to photograph some of the participants myself rather than using Instagram images - however, that lies in the future as I develop my photography skills. Meanwhile, if you would like to suggest anyone as a fitting subject for the series or if you'd like to propose yourself I'd be delighted to consider all suggestions. Please get in touch with your suggestions and comments via Instagram or email me at greyfoxblog AT gmail DOT com.
